This group is an Archdiocesan program embracing
a unique mission: to provide appropriate and
meaningful experiences of faith formation, sacramental
preparation and worship for children and adults
with developmental disabilities.
Annette Leber and her group of volunteers/catechists
give parishioners an inviting place and opportunity
to connect with individuals with disabilities,
and offers ways to more fully include persons
with developmental disabilities and persons
with learning problems into our parish assembly
of worship through the process of education.
St. Ann SPRED group serves adults ages 22 and
older. Other neighboring parishes serve groups
for children 6-10 years old, adolescents ages
11-16 and young adults ages 17-21.
No special talents are needed to join the SPRED
team, just a kind and loving heart. Each volunteer,
called a catechist, is paired with one disabled
friend. Together they learn from each other,
and experience joy, laughter, prayer, hope and
fellowship. Catechists meet September to June.
You need to be 21 to volunteer. No prior experience
with developmentally disabled persons is needed.
Training is offered every fall and spring. Enrichment
is on-going.
